August and September are the times when the migration takes place. You can witness more than six million hooves pounding across the vast plains of the grasslands as more than three hundred thousand Thomson’s gazelles, and two hundred thousand zebras join the wildebeest population trek for grazing towards greener pastures. The frenzied crossing of the Mara River is the highlight of the Serengeti Migration. These animals embark on this annual pilgrimage of over a thousand kilometers every year after a two-month bout of birthing in February and March.

· The Maasai Tribe

The iconic Maasai tribes live in the areas surrounding the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park. These nomadic tribes are famous for their distinctive customs and dresses. You can see some of the most beautiful robes, beaded jewelry, and colorful costumes of the Maasai people. The most significant aspect of this tribe is that they constitute some of the tallest people on the planet with the average height of the tribal people hovering around six and a quarter feet.

The Maasai people have been living in these areas for centuries without any of the modern amenities like running water, electricity, mobile phones, and the internet.
